Silas Birtwistle
Some years ago, I woke up with an (ambitious) idea: to search for some beautiful and exotic samples of driftwood from around the world. The concept was to make a large table surrounded by twelve arm-chairs. A sort of global-emblem for people to sit at and discuss our world?
Being a naïve-kind-of romantic, it was pointed out to me that, in order to get any kind of sponsorship, I would need a peg upon which to hang my coat. Like a steam-train coming towards me, I realised this was the Biological Diversity.
The pieces, and commissions that followed, are just a continuation.
